No rez,

Back to topic,
UK PC Gamer comes to North America and I was thinking of tracking one down but if you guys in Europe are not getting the codes then the of getting one here is slim, but I will still try my luck.

This is the best laugh I have had in so many years. I can`t believe these skill bars have actually been tried and I`m thinking A-Net PR probably had a hand in it, they probably even thought they were good lol.

What the hell are they doing? OK. They are busy brushing up Ascalon and making it look really pretty for GW2. But seriously this is getting stupid, what kind of people are they employing to keep the this `old` game going? Looks like the support team got a promotion or something.

If you bought PC Gamer and feel gipped because you didn't get a minipet, I recommended packaging up your copy of PC Gamer and sending it to the following address:-

Gaile Gray
c/o ArenaNet, Inc.
227 Bellevue Way NE #75
Bellevue, WA 98004

It's where I'll be sending my eight copies of PC Gamer #180 (yes, I have the self-control of a deranged magpie). Then go out and buy Games TM instead. It's cheaper, much better written and multi-platform as well.

P.S. Gaile, please recycle responsibly...

No. Each magazine that gives out these codes probably got 1000 minipet cards.

Here are the numbers for the german Gamestar GW special (which did not have the GW2 lore part and was done rather poorly, the US edition was much better). The numbers are probably similar for other countries.

Vizu: 10
Zhed: 20
Shiroken: 20
Oni: 100
Naga: 100
Yeti: 100
Grawl: 650
Asura: The rest of the circulation - chance to exchange for a destroyer if you already have one.

Wonder if it has occurred to another games company that is they came out with a halfway decent online rpg some time around 2009 they could do really well in Europe.

Asia and America could have GW2 and we could have our own offering

Word of arena-nets treatment of some of its players must be spreading accross the websites and blogs of the internet by now.

I know the whold thing has got me down because I have gone from playing most days to not playing at all over the last couple of weeks.

Maybe I will try to play a little today and see if I can raise the same enthusiasm I once had.

Are you sure about this?

The official page says there are 1000 mini pets in total.

http://eu.guildwars.com/events/in_ga...ts/mini_promo/

Also, the Asura offer is only in some magazines. The UK edition of PC Gamer did not have this. You either got a ticket for one of the rare ones, or you got nothing.

Btw - perhaps a mod could merge the three threads on this subject?

Agreed. I can't believe I wasted £6 on such a short, poorly-written magazine, I will never buy PCGamer again. The review sucked, even if the reviewer (who left their IGN visible in the review) had a hilarious skillbar. They seemed overly concerned by the fact that you can't jump ingame - weird.

All the boxes had been tampered with in the shop, but I thought I'd give it a shot and purchase one anyways - thought perhaps they would have stuck the cards in or something. But no. No minipet for me. It really bothers me that people who don't play GW could get the codes and just chuck them.

Information on the promotion is pretty scant as well. The only mention of it is on the box:

"Guild Wars Giveaway. 1000 free pets! Is there one inside?* see page 47 for full terms and conditions"

Page 47 is just the general terms and conditions for any promotion. However, I think most people missed the asterisk, which can be followed up on the back of the box -

"Requires a Guild Wars account. No purchase necessary. Offer open to Uk Residents only, except anyone professionally related to this promotion. All entries must be received by 25/10/2007. Winners will be notified by post or telephone one week later. Entries should be sent to...."

So I guess I will be entering the contest this way...

Incidentally, it was a rather large bookstore (Borders) I went to which also has many imported magazines, including the Ultimate Guild Wars Guide from the States for £8. Picked up 2 copies of that for my boyfriend and myself and got 2 working codes for destroyer minipets, along with some nice artwork, so any peeps living near a Borders bookshop might want to try there.

The thing with PC Gamer is:- they all play WoW and if it isn't WoW they don't like it (in MMO terms anyway). Every time something has happened in WoW they cover it with a lots of pages, but with GW you'll be lucky to get 2 pages written badly with no enthusiasm at all. I buy PCG regularly and normally find it enjoyable...this months isn't worth the £6 price and doesn't even have anything remotely interesting in it. A poor show all round. Oh, and i didn't get a pet either. I suppose there is always PC Zone in a couple of days, not that i'm holding my breath!

Went into my local Borders after reading this and found copies of the US Ultimate Guild Wars Guide that Miss Persephone mentioned, so I bought one of those and got my free Destroyer.

Everyone else should try this out too, but make sure you take what looks like a pristine copy of the magazine, just so you can guarantee the code hasn't been stolen by some reprobate with a camera phone.

Thanks for the tip!

I also took a copy of this nice magazine at my local Borders. I took one of the copies in the middle of the pile, just in case people grab the codes.

Too bad for PC Gamer, and it'll probably be the same for PC Zone, it could have been a nice promo ...

Yes, I am sure about this. These numbers are directly from the german special issue.

The official page was very vague, and the german one was different, too (it mentioned the asura).

I trust the word/numbers in the magazine more than the official webpage. But I cannot say I would swear each magazine got 1000, but would also not give my word that there are only 1000 in total.

Blame it on a webpage that tricked GW players into buying a magazine that makes more sense for starters (the rathre shabby German edition did not have any GW2 lore nor pvp advice, but a general class overview and crude armor pics taken from the wiki and the web) than for those who already play GW. The lottery style, worst in the benelux states, was not mentioned.

They seem to have given a contingent of cards to each magazine. The germans got a slew of Asura card, I do not know how high the circulation of this special issue was, but for sure more than 1000 copies.

This is not restricted to PC Gamer. OK, they might like it and care especially for the high numbers of WoW players, but this is highly unprofessional.

The German special issue of Gamestar was so lackluster, it does not compare to the WoW special. OK, they have one GW supporter in their team, but it seems she is not really the best pick to make a special issue.

I also want to point out that ANet's marketing department fails.

Yeah, fails. Just read the forums how people feel about the lottery and the very vague and misleading informations given on their webpage.

If they deal with partner magazines like that it is no wonder that they do not incite enthusiasm on their part.

The review of GW:EN started out enthusiastic, then there's a cynical little butt-in from the editor saying "yeah yeah, shut up, we know you like guild wars".

Gotta tone down all the Guildwars love in PC Gamer, definitely..... ahem.

Good job I checked this thread before buying the mag.

I'm not buying it now.

Imagine people that dont play the game getting one of the 10 Vizu's and just throwing it in the bin. What a waste.

Whoever came up with this Idea is a lard assed lame fat plonker with no brain or education.

Think of yourselves as lucky, the only thing the Americans got were Asura, Destroyers, and the Grawl. you guys are complaining because you only get 10 vizus? that only makes like 20 in existence.

Did you have to bring this discussion here as well? Bloody hell, PLEASE stop the war between Europe and America about who has the better minipet deals. If you want to complain about that, go find one of the other thousand threads that were actually made for that discussion.

And if you even read any of this thread at all, you'd know that they are not complaining because they "only got 10 vizus". They are complaining about the completely crap lottery type promotion that was employed in this situation. America gets magazine offers where you are guaranteed to get a minipet, and you guys still complain, no matter how cool the minipets actually look, because you can't make any money off it, since they become too common. Wow, you guys sure have it tough.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm glad I didn't get one of my brother's friends to send a copy of the magazine over to me. Would have been a complete waste of $14 AUD (that's about how much 6 GBP is at the moment) plus shipping fees, plus the complete waste of paper from a magazine I wouldn't read the majority of. I think those countries that got a chance at the rarer minipets, and then everybody else got asura ones (at least, that's how I interpreted it) would have been the best way to go about it everywhere else. Especially since you can exchange the asura for a destroyer if you already had one.
